Graduating with his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Old Dominion University in 1975, Dr. Anderson earned his medical degree from the Eastern Virginia Medical School in 1978. He then went on to complete his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine in 1981, followed by an additional residency in internal medicine at the University of Florida Health Science Center in 1982. Finally, he completed two consecutive fellowships in critical care medicine and pulmonary disease at the same educational venue in 1983 and 1985, respectively.

Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in pulmonary disease, sleep medicine, and internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Among his professional affiliations, he is an active member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the American Thoracic Society.

As for his academic appointment, Dr. Anderson serves as a Professor of Pulmonology at the University of South Florida College of Medicine.

Pulmonology is a medical specialty that deals with diseases involving the respiratory tract. A pulmonologist is an internal medicine physician who specializes in preventing, diagnosing, and treating conditions and diseases that affect the lungs, bronchial tubes, and the respiratory system, including the nose, pharynx, and throat.
