Get to know Family Nurse Practitioner, Yaritza Pizarro, who serves patients in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Yaritza is a certified family nurse practitioner specialized in Nephrology and Transplant. She has worked as a Transplant Coordinator for the last 8 years serving patients at Auxilio Mutuo Transplant Center in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Her devotion to service and mentoring skills has led her to the academic field as a nephrology nursing professor at Puerto Rico University Nursing School.

Back in 2011, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the National University. Later, in 2014  she earned a Nephrology nursing specialization. She completed an Advanced Nursing Master degree in Ana G. Mendez University in 2019, and successfully earned the family nurse practitioner certification board by the American  Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Last year got certified by the American Board for Transplant Certification (ABTC) as a Clinical Transplant Nurse (CCTN). 

Actual president of the American Nephrology Nurses Association-Caribbean Chapter, 

She has made contributions for the nurse practitioner role legitimization in Puerto Rico.

As Nurse Practitioner, and professor, she has been  a speaker for several nursing educational programs, live interviews and media expositions.  

On a more personal note, Yaritza attributes her success to her passion for helping others and learning. -“If you choose to learn something every day, every day will be a fascinating challenge”. She emphasizes that it is imperative for nurses to seek empowerment and leadership through knowledge expansion. 

  • “knowledge should not be limited to a single topic (science or nursing). Learning arts, history, politics, economy and so on, are instrumental to thrive on professional and personal level”. 

Finally she encourages nursing professionals to maintain a balanced healthy lifestyle.

 – “You cannot give what you don’t have, unhealthy lifestyles lead to perpetuation of bad habits and dysfunctional cycles”.
