Being a respected, fellowship-trained rheumatologist, Dr. Sherrer serves as Medical Director & Director of Clinical Research at the Center for Rheumatology, Immunology and Arthritis in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She sees patients with different rheumatologic conditions including lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, osteoarthritis, and more.

Prior to opening her private practice, she served as Chairman of the Department of Rheumatology at Cleveland Clinic Florida for a period of 8 years. Nowadays, she remains affiliated with Boca Raton Regional Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital. 

Back in 1978, Dr. Sherrer obtained her medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She then went on to perform her internship, residency, and fellowship at Stanford University, completing her training in 1983.

With over four decades of experience in her field, she is board-certified in both internal medicine and rheumatology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

An educator, Dr. Sherrer is regularly invited to lecture to physicians and other audiences. She has conducted numerous publications, including serving as the co-author of “Osteoporosis: A Woman Doctor’s Guide.”

Dedicated to excellence, she is a Fellow of the American College of Rheumatology, as well as a member of the Broward County Medical Association and the Florida Society of Rheumatology. 

Rheumatology is a branch of medicine devoted to the diagnosis and therapy of rheumatic diseases. Physicians who have undergone formal training in rheumatology are called rheumatologists. Rheumatologists treat arthritis, autoimmune diseases, pain disorders affecting joints, and osteoporosis. There are more than 200 types of these diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, lupus, back pain, osteoporosis, and tendinitis.

Throughout her fruitful career, Dr. Sherrer has been on numerous national committees, including serving a four-year term on the FDA Advisory Committee for Arthritis. She has also been the Principal Investigator in over 150 clinical trials almost exclusively related to arthritis therapeutics.

For her clinical expertise, she has been awarded with Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2011, 2017, 2018) and Patients’ Choice Award (2014, 2017, 2018).
