Dr. Ghogawala is a board-certified neurosurgeon whose clinical interests include spinal and brain tumors, disc herniations, carotid stenosis, spinal cord compression and spinal deformities. Dr. Ghogawala is the Chairman of Neurosurgery at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts. Dr. Ghogawala was the principal investigator of the national SLIP study – a randomized clinical trial that compared fusion versus no fusion following spinal decompression.
Dr. Ghogawala is board-certified in neurosurgery by the American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS). The mission of the ABNS is to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards, and advance the science of neurological surgery.
Dr. Ghogawala is on the Board of Directors of the North American Spine Society (NASS) and the Cervical Spine Research Society.
Dr. Ghogawala received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in 1991. He then went on to complete his internship in internal medicine and residencies in neurosurgery and general surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. He also completed fellowship trainings at Harvard Medical School and at Whitehead Institute / Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Ghogawala is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). Fellowship is a post-nominal title used to indicate that the surgeon’s education and training, professional qualifications, surgical competence, and ethical conduct have passed a rigorous evaluation, and have been found to be consistent with the high standards established and demanded by said College.
