Educated in the United States, Dr. Correa received his Associate’s degree in Natural Science from Lee College in Baytown, Texas. He then pursued his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston, and finished his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry in San Antonio.

While at the University of Houston, Dr. Correa participated in human genetics studies and health, receiving a vast understanding in conditions such as Turner’s Syndrome, Down Syndrome, and more. While at Incarnate Word, he rotated under the supervision of Dr. Rick Sharp for Sharp Eye Consultants, Dr. John Kozlovsky for KDW. There, he learned the importance of eye care. That is, vision is not determined by the need of glasses. Rather, vision complications may be due to life threatening problems, health problems or vision threatening problems.

Engaged in professional associations, Dr. Correa is a member of the Texas Optometric Association, the American Optometric Association, and the College of Optometrists in Vision Development.

Optometry is a health care profession that involves examining the eyes and applicable visual systems for defects or abnormalities, as well as diagnosing and managing eye disease. Optometrists are healthcare professionals who provide primary eye care through comprehensive eye examinations to detect and treat various visual abnormalities and eye diseases. Being a regulated profession, an optometrist’s scope of practice may differ depending on the location. Thus, disorders or diseases detected outside the treatment scope of optometry (i.e. those requiring certain surgical interventions) are referred out to relevant medical professionals for proper care, more commonly to ophthalmologists who are physicians that specialize in the tertiary medical and surgical care of the eye. Optometrists typically work closely together with other eye care professionals, such as ophthalmologists and opticians, to deliver quality and efficient eye care to the general public.

While at Incarnate Word, Dr. Correa founded The Low Vision and Rehabilitation Club to aid the community that has vision loss. He was awarded for clinical excellence from 2009 to 2013, consecutively. He was also awarded for excellence in private practice and contact lens care in 2013 and voted “Best in Class of 2013” by his peers for Vision Monday.
