Recognized as a reputable dermatologist and Mohs surgeon, Dr. Murphy serves as the President of The Indiana Skin Cancer Center in Greenwood, Indiana. He and Dr. Brenda Murphy, MD, founded the practice in 2007 with a goal to be the gold standard for the detection and treatment of all forms of skin cancer in the region.
Today, after performing over 40,000 surgical cases, they continue with the same priorities in mind. Serving patients compassionately and with cutting edge expertise, their main mission is to have a positive impact on the lives of all patients and to make sure their time in the office is a pleasant and effective experience.

Growing up in Norfolk, Nebraska, Dr. Murphy graduated with honors from The University of Notre Dame and graduated with highest honors from The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He then completed his residency in dermatology at Walter Reed in Bethesda and was an Associate Professor of Dermatology at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio for 2 years. He completed a one-year American College of Mohs Surgery and Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education certified fellowship in Mohs Surgery under the direction of Drs. John Zitelli and David Brodland in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
A Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and an Associate of the American College of Mohs Surgery, the doctor is board-certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology (ABD). The ABD is a voluntary, non-profit, private, autonomous organization formed for the primary purpose of protecting the public interest by establishing and maintaining high standards of training, education, and qualifications of physicians rendering care in dermatology.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Murphy volunteers to help teach advanced skin reconstruction techniques to the dermatology residents and Mohs fellows at Indiana University.
Passionate about his profession, he has authored multiple articles and two book chapters on skin cancer and the Mohs surgery technique. He has also presented at regional and national meetings on multiple occasions. In 2007, he was awarded the Tromovitch Award at the American College of Mohs Surgery Annual Meeting for the best research project.
Furthermore, as a testament to his success, he is the recipient of Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018), On-Time Doctor Award (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018), and Patients’ Choice Award (2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018).
