This foundational step was followed by a residency in internal medicine at NYU Medical Center in 1967, equipping him with crucial medical expertise. Subsequently, in 1969, he embarked on a fellowship in nephrology at the Veterans Administration Health System in New York.
Building on this comprehensive training, Dr. Matalon achieved board certifications, firstly in internal medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1970, and subsequently in nephrology from the same board in 1974.
