Spain is an established Sports Medicine Physician who continues to provide exceptional care and support to his patients as Director of Primary Care Sports Medicine with the Total Orthopedics & Sports Medicine located in Long Island. Throughout his career, he has accrued a special expertise in ultrasound-guided injections procedure, platelet-rich plasma/prolotherapy injections, diagnostic ultrasound, concussion management and osteopathic manipulation techniques.
Dr. Spain’s career in medicine began when he graduated with his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine at NYIT. After medical school, he completed his residency with Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, New York, followed by his Sports Medicine fellowship training with the North Shore/LIJ system. Dr. Spain is board certified in Family Practice with added qualifications in Sports Medicine.
Dr. Spain keeps current with the latest developments, guidelines, and procedures in his field by maintaining a professional membership with the American Osteopathic Association, the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, and the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine. He specializes in caring for athletes with a holistic approach to medicine, nutrition, and rehabilitation, and strives to provide the best outcome possible for his patients of all ages. Moreover, Dr. Spain actively teaches students, residents, and fellows, and also serves as one of the team physicians for the USA men’s and women’s water polo national teams. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter.
