William E. Battle, MD, Cardiovascular Medicine Specialist with CardioCare
Get to know Cardiovascular Medicine Specialist Dr. William E. Battle, MD, who serves the population of Maryland.
Dr. Battle completed his undergraduate degree from Emory University before continuing on to Emory University School of Medicine to receive his Medical Degree in 1964, giving him over five decades of experience in his field. After obtaining his medical degree he completed his internal medicine residency with the Georgetown University Hospital. Wanting to further his training he completed his cardiovascular fellowship at the Tufts New England Medical Center Hospitals. Dr. Battle also attended the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine at Brooks Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
Dr. Battle is dual certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease from the American Board of Internal Medicine. To stay up to date in his field he remains a professional member of the American College of Cardiology, American College of Physicians, and The American Medical Association. In recognition of his long history of public service with the Archdiocesan Health Care Network, President George Bush awarded Dr. Battle the “Points of Light” award in 1991 on behalf of the Archdiocesan Health Care Network. Dr. Battle was also received into the Papal Order of Saint Gregory the Great in 2006. Dr. Battle currently practices with CardioCare, a private practice he helped form, and is affiliated with Suburban Hospital, Sibley Memorial Hospital, and the Georgetown University Hospital.
Cardiology is a branch of internal medicine. A cardiologist is not the same as a cardiac surgeon. A cardiac surgeon opens the chest and performs heart surgery, whereas a cardiologist specializes in diagnosing and treating diseases of the cardiovascular system. The cardiologist will carry out tests and they may perform some procedures, such as heart catheterization, angioplasty or pacemaker insertion.
