After earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Boston University in 2005 and his Master of Science degree in Physiology and Biophysics from Georgetown University in 2006, Dr. Burstein went on to obtain his medical degree from the SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in New York City, New York in 2012. 

Wanting to further his training, he completed his internship at Mary Imogene Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, New York in 2013, followed by his residency at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in 2016. He also completed his glaucoma fellowship at the University of Virginia in 2017. 

In addition to being a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology nd having conducted several publications, the doctor is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology, whose mission is to serve the public by improving the quality of ophthalmic practice through a process of certification and Maintenance of Certification that fosters excellence and encourages continual learning. 

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye.
