A triple board-certified vascular and endovascular surgeon, Dr. Abbruzzese works with HCA Florida Vascular Specialists in Brandon, Florida. His approach to patient care is rooted in his philosophy of using the most advanced endovascular techniques along with the best of traditional surgery to achieve optimal results.

Treating a wide range of vascular conditions, the doctor’s areas of specialization include aortic dissection, abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysm repair, limb salvage (PAD and CLI), carotid artery disease, renal and mesenteric artery disease, hemodialysis access, and venous disease.

Academically, Dr. Abbruzzese obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Davis in 1995, and received his medical degree from the Stanford University School of Medicine in 2000. He then went on to complete his residency in general surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in 2007, followed by his fellowship in vascular surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital in 2008.

Subsequent to his training, he attained board certification in vascular surgery, general surgery, and surgical critical care through the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

Certified as a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI), Dr. Abbruzzese is a Fellow of the Society for Vascular Surgery (FSVS) and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). 

In addition, he is a member of the Florida Medical Society, the Society for Vascular Ultrasound, and the American Medical Association.

Vascular surgery is a surgical subspecialty in which diseases of the vascular system, including the arteries, veins, and lymphatic circulation, are managed by medical therapy, minimally-invasive catheter procedures, and surgical reconstruction. A vascular surgeon diagnoses, treats, and manages conditions in the arteries and veins, also called the blood vessels. These specialists treat a range of health problems, from spider and varicose veins to life-threatening aneurysms, and can help patients manage chronic conditions throughout their lives.

Attributing his success to offering patient-centered care and giving an authentic opinion, Dr. Abbruzzese has authored multiple articles in peer-reviewed journals on various topics in vascular disease, transplantation and trauma and has presented his findings nationally.

Known for his outstanding work, he has been named America’s Top Surgeon in Vascular Surgery with Honors of Distinction and Excellence by the Consumers’ Research Council of America year after year. He has also been the recipient of Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2015, 2014), Patients’ Choice Award (2014), and On-Time Doctor Award (2014).
