An accomplished neurological surgeon, Dr. Morton specializes in cerebrovascular surgery, endovascular neurosurgery, and tumors of the brain and spine. He is the Chief of Neurosurgery at Brooke Army Medical Center. 

Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Texas, serves as the largest and most robust military healthcare organization within the Department of Defense (DOD) providing safe, quality care to military service members, their families, veterans and civilian emergency patients as the most robust and productive healthcare organization within the Military Health System (MHS). Alongside his position at Brooke Army Medical Center, Dr. Morton is a Clinical Assistant Professor within the Department of Neurosurgery at the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine. 

On a professional level, he is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the Alpha Sigma Nu Jesuit Honor Society, and the Alpha Epsilon Delta Premedical Honor Society

Academically, Dr. Morton holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Notre Dame, where he was a distinguished military graduate, finishing cum laude. He earned his medical degree from the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, being class valedictorian and finishing summa cum laude. He then went on to complete his residency in neurosurgery (serving as Chief Resident) and his fellowship in endovascular surgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

Licensed to practice medicine in Texas and Missouri, the doctor is board-certified in neurological surgery by the American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS). The broad aim of the ABNS is to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards and advance the science of neurological surgery and thereby serve the cause of public health.

Neurology is a branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the nervous system. Neurologists are licensed medical specialists who diagnose and treat disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles of patients. They examine a patient’s mental and physical status, conduct medical tests and scans, and evaluate the results to diagnose and treat the patient.

Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Morton has been the recipient of various awards and honors such as the Synthes Award for Outstanding Cerebrovascular Abstract- Congress of Neurological Surgeons 2012, DePuy Synthes Resident Craniofacial Award – American Academy of Neurological Surgeons 2016, Cerebrovascular Resident Award – American Academy of Neurological Surgeons, Courage To Lead Award – presented for Outstanding Resident Leadership 2012, 2013, Department Representative to the House Officers Union 2014-2016, Gunnar Research Grant, STAR Grant Award, Best Performance in Surgery Clerkship 2008-09, Best Performance during the First Year Curriculum 2006, and Army Notre Dame ROTC Cadet of the Year.
