Academically, Dr. Morton holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Notre Dame, where he was a distinguished military graduate, finishing cum laude. He earned his medical degree from the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, being class valedictorian and finishing summa cum laude. He then went on to complete his residency in neurosurgery (serving as Chief Resident) and his fellowship in endovascular surgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine.
Licensed to practice medicine in Texas and Missouri, the doctor is board-certified in neurological surgery by the American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS). The broad aim of the ABNS is to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards and advance the science of neurological surgery and thereby serve the cause of public health.

Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Morton has been the recipient of various awards and honors such as the Synthes Award for Outstanding Cerebrovascular Abstract- Congress of Neurological Surgeons 2012, DePuy Synthes Resident Craniofacial Award – American Academy of Neurological Surgeons 2016, Cerebrovascular Resident Award – American Academy of Neurological Surgeons, Courage To Lead Award – presented for Outstanding Resident Leadership 2012, 2013, Department Representative to the House Officers Union 2014-2016, Gunnar Research Grant, STAR Grant Award, Best Performance in Surgery Clerkship 2008-09, Best Performance during the First Year Curriculum 2006, and Army Notre Dame ROTC Cadet of the Year.
